About Troop 199

Building character, leadership, and adventure in Fishers, Indiana since 1993.

OUR MISSION

Building tomorrow's leaders

Troop 199 prepares young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. As a Scout-led troop, our boys plan the outings, run the meetings, and lead their patrols — with adult leaders serving as mentors and guides rather than directors.

Through monthly campouts, high-adventure treks, service projects, and the trail to Eagle, Scouts build self-reliance, learn practical outdoor skills, and grow into leaders in their communities. Every rank earned and every badge sewn on represents a challenge met and a skill mastered.

New to all this? Our guide to scouting in Fishers explains how Scouts BSA works, what it costs, and how to choose a troop.

OUR HISTORY

Since 1993

Troop 199 is located in the Monon District of the Crossroads of America Council in Central Indiana and Scouts from Fishers, Carmel, Noblesville, Fortville, and the surrounding areas all make up Troop 199.

Troop 199 was founded in 1993 by 5 Scout and 2 Adult Leaders. Our first Chartered Organization was the St. Louis De Montfort Knight of Columbus – Fr. Thomas J. Kelley Council #69. In 2016 we moved down the street to Holy Family Episcopal Church. In December of 2025 we moved to our current home at Legacy Bible Church.

From 1993 to 2009, Ted Taylor served as Scoutmaster. When he stepped down after 15 years he camped over 300 nights in a tent and had 67 of the troop's Scouts earn Eagle during his tenure.

From 2009 to 2024, Bryan Spellman served as Scoutmaster. When he stepped down after 15 years he camped 365 nights with the troop and had 154 Eagle Scouts earn Scouting's highest rank during his time as Scoutmaster. He stepped down in February 2024 and currently serves in the role of Committee member.

In late 2024 David Friedman was sworn in as Scoutmaster of Troop 199 and looks to continue its legacy by bridging its rich history and traditions with the aims and methods of Scouting.
